Nhlayisa Nutrition Solutions was established in 2007 to address local nutritional deficiencies. Our research conducted in rural communities situated adjacent to wildlife areas in South Africa revealed severe nutritional deficiencies. As a result, millions of people have benefited from our signature product, Nhlayisa Power Supply.

Nhlayisa Nutrition Solutions
Game ranger and motivational speaker, Alex van den Heever, who lives at Londolozi Game Reserve conceived “Nhlayisa” (Tsonga word for ‘care’). Alex has lived in the bushveld for 21 years, working everyday with men and women who often do not reach their full potential due to poor nutrition.
This motivated Alex and James Hendry to conduct a detailed nutritional investigation of the people living in rural Mpumalanga and Limpopo, bordering the Kruger National Park. The results revealed severe nutritional deficiencies among the residents.
“By visiting hundreds of homes, schools and clinics we recognised the enormous talent and untapped potential of the people and their children”, says Alex. He continues, “this became our reason for being.”
To date Nhlayisa has supplied nutritious foods for large retail outlets such as Pick ‘n Pay, Mopani Pharmacy, Spar, mines, timber mills, farmers, feeding schemes as well as informal white lable retail clients.
Phindile Rabothata – Sales & Operations
Phindile is the Sales and Operations Manager for Nhlayisa. She is the ‘moving spirit’ behind Nhlayisa brand and culture. Phindile has the rare blend of exceptional product knowledge, strong leadership skills, and a sheer passion for the food industry.
Phindile studied Travel and Tourism Management at the Tshwane University of Technology. Her career in the food industry started at African Dynamics Group as the Contract Manufacturing Administrator and Account manager. Her love for people resulted in her becoming a member of the Board of Trustees – looking after the interests on her fellow employees.
A Social Enterprise
Nhlayisa’s overarching mission is to provide high quality affordable fortified foods for people to be healthy and energetic. Everyone at Nhlayisa is of the absolute belief that the products give people the best chance to improve their lives. “I know that our porridges substantially benefit the consumer”, says Alex.
Nhlayisa invests 50% of its profits in growing the distribution, refining products and developing new alliances.
Nhlayisa seeks partnerships with black-owned distribution companies to deliver products to schools, retail outlets and individual clients.
The new “food soldier” model allows for the creation of a network of micro entrepreneurs (local distributors) at the lowest levels of the economic pyramid. This model ensures the distribution of nutrition to the most needed areas and in the process supports local business people.
Manufacture
All products are manufactured to the highest health and safety standards in South Africa. The manufacturing facility is certified FSSC 22000 for Food Safety Management.
